Abstract:
In this chapter, we begin by reviewing and synthesizing what we know about empowerment in the workplace. We look across several related perspectives on empowerment in the literature. We then integrate key learnings on empowerment with a special eye toward implications for organizational change and development. Finally, we offer an agenda for future work on empowerment. As part of this agenda, we highlight some critical new directions in organizational studies that have implications for empowerment theory.
