Center for Positive Organizations (CPO) Research Advisory Board member Brianna Caza visits the Women at Work podcast for an episode called “Let’s Take Our Side Gigs Off the Back-Burner.”
Caza and co-hosts Emily Caulfield, Amy Gallo and Amy Bernstein discuss how to find the time, energy, and support to pursue passion projects. Specifically, Caza coaches Caulfield on how to shed her guilt and tackle the piles of unfinished projects around her home.
Caza recommends setting priorities, scheduling time, involving friends and family so they can provide accountability, considering carefully what you share with your primary boss and setting an overall goal for how you see yourself.
“If you have this overarching story of who you want to be in terms of your career, then it allows you to start to evaluate all of the side gigs you have by that metric,” Caza says. “So, is it something that’s allowing you to create or learn? Is it something that helps you to feed into this more overarching goal?”
Caza is an Associate Professor of Management at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received her PhD in Organizational Psychology from the University of Michigan.
