Arik Cheshin

Arik Cheshin is an organizational psychologist whose work explores the role of emotions in organizations, with a particular focus on how emotions are expressed, perceived, and regulated in interpersonal and team contexts. He is an Associate Professor in the Human Services Department at the University of Haifa, where he founded and directs the Emotion in Organizations Lab. The lab’s mission is to harness the power of emotions to enhance individual well-being and organizational effectiveness.

Arik began his academic journey with a BA in Psychology (with high distinction) from the University of Michigan. He earned his MA and PhD in Organizational Psychology at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where he investigated the social impact of emotions in virtual teams and hospital settings under the supervision of Prof. Anat Rafaeli. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Amsterdam, working with Prof. Gerben van Kleef in the Emotion and Social Information Lab to further examine the interpersonal impact of emotions.

His research has been published in leading journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Social Psychological and Personality Science, Human Resource Management Review, and Nature Human Behaviour. His work has also received international media attention, appearing in outlets such as BBC Radio, CBS, CNBC, CNN, The Economic Times, Forbes, Greater Good Magazine, International Business Times, Psychology Today, Science Daily, Spiegel Online, The Telegraph, Time, and The Wall Street Journal.

He also gave a TEDx talk at the Technion titled The Power of Emotional Displays at Work.

Arik’s research addresses questions such as how leaders and team members shape each other’s emotional experiences, how emotional expressions influence collaboration, and how digital communication alters emotional perception. His current work explores the role of extrinsic affect regulation in leadership emergence, as well as digital emotional labor.
