Walt Sowden is a Lecturer of Management and Organizations at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, where he teaches management and leadership.
Walt’s research focuses on loyalty, morality, emotion regulation in high-stakes situations, and the well-being of military service members and veterans.
Before joining the faculty at Ross, Walt held various leadership roles over his 20+ years of service in the U.S. Army, including Company Commander in the First Cavalry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Tactical Officer at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Principal Investigator at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and Director of Research for the Department of Behavioral Health at Tripler Army Medical Center.
Walt holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Michigan, an MA in Organizational Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a BA in Sociology from South Dakota State University.
