#SOGRATEFUL – Sharing Work Accomplishments via Expressions of Gratitude

Talk description:

The ability to self-promote has important implications for one’s career, personal brand, and reputation. Taking a social-functional approach, through a series of employee interviews and experimental studies, we seek to understand the potential benefits and consequences of “gratitude bragging”, which we define as the process of publicly sharing favorable information about oneself via expressions of gratitude. We look at this specifically within the context of work accomplishments (e.g., promotions, awards, etc.) and experimentally test the effectiveness of gratitude bragging compared to other positive emotional expressions as well as no emotional expression. While this work is still in the early stages, we look forward to getting your feedback!

Research is the heart of Positive Organizational Scholarship (POS), and we want to make sure that we support each other in developing high quality research. To that end, we created the Adderley Positive Research Incubator for sharing and encouraging POS-related research ideas that are at various stages of development.
