Adam Grant shares your email does not constitute my emergency

Center for Positive Organizations Faculty Affiliate Adam Grant shares his thoughts in this New York Times article, “Your Email Does Not Constitute My Emergency.”

Adam explains that since the COVID-19 pandemic, people have fallen into a deep state of apologizing for not answering emails right away. This, while a responsive act, has created a breeding ground for burnout and stress. Communicating your expectations, establishing healthy boundaries, and giving yourself grace when responding to emails places an importance on your well-being and self-compassion, but also provides a more thoughtful response to your recipient.

Adam Grant is The Saul P. Steinberg Professor of Management at the University of Pennsylvania.
