Jane Dutton, Monica Worline discuss compassion on The Courageous Life podcast
July 23, 2020
Center for Positive Organizations (CPO) core faculty members Jane Dutton and Monica Worline talk about compassion on The Courageous Life podcast.
The researchers discuss the value of compassion to employees, often outranking money and benefits. They emphasize that compassion doesn’t have to consume a burdensome amount of time to impact an organization.
“It can be just a small gesture, a small presence when someone wants to tell about their pain, etcetera, that again has this profound impact of valuing and having the person be seen but also healing and building this commitment,” Dutton says.
Dutton is a CPO co-founder and the Robert L. Kahn Distinguished University Emerita Professor of Business Administration and Psychology at the University of Michigan. Worline is a lecturer at the Ross School of Business. The women co-founded the CompassionLab and co-authored Awakening Compassion at Work: The Quiet Power That Elevates People and Organizations.
