Center for Positive Organizations (CPO) faculty affiliate Lindsey Cameron visits the Work and Life podcast for an episode called “The Gig Economy and the Pandemic.”

The episode explores Cameron’s research into how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted gig workers personally and professionally.

Many gig workers are first generation Americans, people from underrepresented groups, or mothers trying to get back into the workforce, Cameron notes, making them particularly reliant on gig work and vulnerable to the pandemic.

“If you have someone that’s the only person working in their family and they have five children and then the pandemic happens, and they kept on driving, people got COVID from passengers in their back seat refusing to wear a mask,” Cameron says.

The wide-ranging Work and Life interview also touches on factors that influence gig workers’ employment choices, mindfulness, and more.

Cameron is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
