Wayne Baker busts myths about asking for help in Business Insider article, NPR podcast

January 22, 2020

Center for Positive Organizations (CPO) faculty director Wayne Baker, author of the recently released book All You Have to Do Is Ask: How to Master the Most Important Skill for Success, shares his research with Business Insider and NPR.

The Business Insider article “Science agrees you should stop being afraid to ask for help. An expert debunks 2 big myths about why people don’t.” offers an excerpt of Baker’s new book. The article highlights two key concepts from his research: We often underestimate how willing people are to help us and they may see us as more competent—not less—because we requested help.

Baker also speaks with Art&Soul podcast host Lisa Barry on NPR affiliate 89.1 WEMU in Ypsilanti for the episode, “The Art Of Well Being – “All You Have To Do Is Ask” Is Most Important Skill For Success.” The conversation explores how to ask for help and the benefits of doing so for individuals, teams, and organizations.

Baker is the Center for Positive Organizations (CPO) faculty director and Robert P. Thome Professor of Business; Professor of Management and Organizations; Professor of Sociology.
