Wayne Baker offers tips for hosting virtual meetings on IR Magazine podcast
August 31, 2020
IR Magazine interviews Center for Positive Organizations (CPO) core faculty member Wayne Baker in the podcast episode “The golden age of video.”
Baker tells listeners of IR, a publication focused on investor relations, how to design, manage and run virtual meetings to create high-quality connections.
He strongly encourages meeting hosts to harness the power of video and chat to personalize the experience for participants. Baker also suggests acknowledging the strangeness of meeting virtually during a pandemic to create a human moment.
“If the person just said, ‘I’m broadcasting out of my study here and you might hear my dog barking and I apologize about that’ — I’m sure many of you have had that happen or had a child or somebody run through — it takes what, 30 or 45 seconds? But it makes it a little more personal,” Baker says.
Wayne Baker, PhD, is Faculty Director of the Center for Positive Organizations at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. He is the author of the book, All You Have to Do Is Ask: How to Master the Most Important Skill for Success.
